Weight Loss

Weight loss seems to be on everyone’s mind. Some people want to lose 10 pounds before the wintertime comes so they will still look great in their bulky clothing. Some people want to lose 100 pounds because they simply want to look and feel better. Some people need to lose weight due to health complications from being obese. It doesn’t matter why you want to lose weight, weight loss is not easy and there just isn’t a fountain of youth that will make you look like you are 17 again.



If you just want to lose a few pounds so that your clothes look better on you, the best way to do that is with a healthy diet and exercise. The trick is to burn more calories than you take in for this, or any kind of weight loss. But drastic measures to lose just a couple of pounds will usually do you more harm than good because you will end up with muscle loss as well, then you will be burdened with toning the muscles after you lose the weight. Supplements can be helpful if you need to lose the weight before a special date or event coming up soon, but be careful not to overdo them and make sure to find the ones that meet your personal weight loss needs.


Losing 100 pounds or more will take more than a healthy diet and exercise, although that should be the basis of your plan. Supplements can be very helpful here, too, but make sure to talk with your doctor about any weight loss supplements or drastic measures like a six week tomato soup and lemons diet. If you are overweight by that much then it is likely that you are dealing with some health issues as well and some herbal supplements don’t mix well with some prescription medications.



Surgery is the last resort for weight loss. Most surgeons won’t consider you for weight loss surgery unless you are considered grossly obese, are more than 100 pounds overweight, are generally otherwise healthy, and have had a psychiatric evaluation to ensure that you aren’t going to go bulimic on them after they do the surgery because this could kill you. There are a few types of weight loss surgeries now and if you feel that you need weight loss surgery schedule a consultation with your doctor to discuss it. Don’t just bring it up at an appointment because your doctor will not have time to go over all of the details with you at that time.



If you are overweight weight loss is important for getting and staying healthy, but think very carefully about what approach to weight loss you are going to take and consider any health risks involved in it. It just doesn’t make sense to make yourself unhealthy while trying to get healthy.
